Former President (and office distraction), Paul Makielski, has officially been promoted to Iron Chef of Sitmatic’s Kitchen Stadium. Paul wowed the judges with his famous Vegetable Florentine soup and a beautiful array of the finest cold cuts and cheeses in all the land (aka Restaurant Depot).

After Monday’s lunch, the Sitmatic employees hoisted Makielski on their shoulders chanting “Viva Pablo!”, some even promised to name their first born after him. Let’s see Dick Resch get a rise out of his employees like that!

When Makielski isn’t sailing his 14’ Lido, or working on his tan while at "community service", you can find him at Sitmatic’s Kitchen Stadium preparing for next Monday’s lunch. Now if we can only teach him to cook something different. TGIM.

Sitmatic is currently working on a Tuxedo installation in Fridley, Minnesota! It is a 312 position auditorium inside Totino Grace High School.

Totino Grace upholstered Tuxedo in a Category 3 fabric "Cheers High Ball." The backrest shell was done in Formica Wild Cherry laminate. Lastly, they also have low voltage LED aisle lights. Okay enough jibber jabber, here's a snap shot of the install! :)

Juan, our lead installer, has been working diligently to get the job done properly. It looks great Juan! :)

Tuxedo is one of our most customizable products, if you want something special for your auditorium seating..... it can be done!

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Through the wonderful graces (no pun intended) of my bosses here at work, I am able to go to school full-time along with my wonderful job here at Sitmatic. Lucky for me, I get to do the things I love all day long. Plus, I get to be inside a classroom or office for most of the day. Which means I get to be in an air conditioned room, (again through the wonderful graces of my boss and school) avoiding this WRETCHED heat in Southern California! It's finally feeling like summer! June Gloom has FINALLY left the building.... in AUGUST!

While I was sitting in my accounting class yesterday, I had a fixed seating epiphany! This furniture sucks. Thank god that we have Sitmatic to make sturdy, ergonomic, and comfortable fixed seating. I know that a lot of people are visual. So let me show you some examples of what my accounting class experience was like.

1. The air conditioning was on WAY too high. I mean, I know it's hot out in SoCal right now, but I felt like I was literally freezing!

2. My professor lectures like the teacher in Charlie Brown

3. MOST IMPORTANTLY: The seating was horrible. Fixed tables with free-standing chairs. My back was killing me!

4. Then there was everyone trying to take notes on their laptops. With no table mounted electronic/data jack, I felt like we were in an electronic warfare.

Half way through the lecture, I felt like this...

I mean, to make it worse, people in the class are so rude and don't push their chairs in when class was over and leave their trash all over the tables. They decide to leave a mess behind for someone else to deal with!

I just thought to myself, "What would this room be like if we had Squeeze?" And then I felt a sudden burst of happiness.

Squeeze has a 40% better space utilization than traditional desk/chair systems. The tables are dedicated to laptops and can come configured with power and data. There would be no lingering fear of tripping over anyone's chair that wasn't pushed in. The seats and backs of the chairs are made of a maintenance free and rip-proof construction. They are breathable and very comfortable.

Once students walk into a lecture hall with a Squeeze seating configuration, they are going to be impressed and blown away by it's sleek and modern design.

Maybe if I wish hard enough, tomorrow I can walk into a new classroom.

A couple of weeks ago, if you haven't already heard, Chries left Sitmatic to pursue other interests in her family business. Which is where I come into play! My name is Grace Kang and I'm the new CAD/Design specialist here at Sitmatic! I thought I would take the time to introduce myself & revitalize our blog while at it. I just recently graduated from FIDM, which was Chries' alumni as well. :) I'm really excited about starting my career here at Sitmatic. I had my first full week of work last week, which went surprisingly well. Along with my job responsibilities, I volunteered to run the blog, facebook, and twitter accounts. So prepare to hear a lot of social buzz from us at Sitmatic! Hopefully I can keep y'all interested with some good blog posts & ramblings.

Well, since I'm new I decided to dedicate this post to things that are "new" and what's happening at Sitmatic!

New Sales Rep meeting is coming up in October, I'm not sure what to expect but everyone in the office tells me that it's a lot of fun!

Babies Helping Babies

As you may know, Sitmatic works with a handful of charities to help children in need. Well we've found another one! The Toy Loan Program allows children to borrow toys from a Toy Loan Center in the same manner in which they borrow books from the public library. The children borrow toys once a week, after 20 weeks of returning the toys in good condition the children are eligible to receive a toy of their choice TO KEEP.

The Toy Loan Program was started by the L.A. County Department of Social Services in 1935 and is now struggling with the number of donations dropping from 6,353 toys in 2008 to 2,874 toys in 2009, while the number of children served climbing from 5,351 in 2008 to 6,756 in 2009.

This month, Sitmatic has donated over 300 Beanie Babies to the Toy Loan Program and is asking that everyone help out, if possible. Cash and toy donations are accepted. Toys should be in good condition, working properly, and complete. Watch the video below to learn more.

The Long and the Short of it.

Achondroplasia is a bone growth disorder that causes 70% of the cases of dwarfism. It is characterized by limbs that are disproportionately short compared to the persons trunk. We tried and tried to make the Mesh Back an option on the Posh Operational but it did not seem to make sense in pricing so we made a new model number for the chair and made it less expensive!!

So this is the way it works... in a Category 2 fabric, the Posh Mesh is $180 list more than a comparably configured Posh Mid Back with the Full Seat. As you go higher in the fabric categories, the price differential gets smaller since the upcharge for higher grade fabrics is applied only to the seat and not the back.

So here is how the new model number breaks down:

All the feedback from NeoCon 2009 has been evaluated and the Posh Mesh has been stripped down to undergo final tweaks for it's debut in August. We will have pictures in the near future but Posh Mesh is a little to modest to be shot in her current attire (see through is one thing, naked quite another).

A national bank recently called us to see if we made a super large scale four legged stool... We told them no, but gave them several companies to call that might be able to help. Shortly thereafter they called again and asked if we would please apply some of our custom chair magic to their requirement.

Posh Mesh is what the people want!

We will keep the polls open here, but so far the overwhelming, undisputed, master blaster of new chair lust is the Posh Mesh!

This burning desire has manifested itself into an incredible 82% of the vote (even better than the Guardian Council claims that Ahmadinejad did).

The Posh Mesh is firmly entrenched in the "most important things to get done", but it is certainly not the only thing. The Tuxedo over-sized tablet and the new Tuxedo contours are also polling very well...

I am listening and will continue to report on the results as they come in. I will also update you as to the progress on these projects, for instance, the final frame modification for the Posh Mesh should be complete by the end of next week, final upholstery patterns will soon follow and then we will be ready to start sending samples out to the reps...

“I love the way this chair fits my body!” “Wow, this is really comfortable!” “The controls are so easy to reach, and I really like the adjustable back” “How did you get this chair to be so comfy?” These are just a few of the comments heard on a recent whirlwind tour through North and South Carolina with the new Posh Ergo Exec and Posh Operational chairs.

Between eating the Wadmalaw Burger and Sweet Potato Fries at Pawley’s Front Porch in Columbia, SC and the Shrimp and Grits at Jac’s Grill in Wilson, NC we found some time to put our new chairs to the true test…real time, real people field demos. The old adage “sitting is believing,” confirmed that comfort is a key element of design in every Sitmatic chair. Our PressureCast™ Foam combined with practical ergonomics come together making these two of the “worlds most comfortable chairs.”

Great News from Sitmatic!

With the aide of the nation’s leading ergonomists, we are pleased to announce our standard armrest has undergone complete redesign. This arm, model +1A is on our Alpha, Beta, and Boss Task chairs.

- The arm cap now rotates 360°; an upgrade at no additional charge. We have increased the strength of the spring to prevent accidental rotation

- The width adjusts with a smooth positive motion and now locks securely into 6 different positions by means of a lever.

- The height adjustment range has increased to 4” and now starts at a lower level than before.

A Cup Holder With Personality

Who says innovation is non-existent in the office furniture industry? Take a look at the work of Frank Trevino, from the Sitmatic product development team.

Frank's challenge was the development of a retractable cup holder for our Erasmus Fixed Seating platform, that would be compact, functional and complimentary to the overall design of the product. (Let's face it, these days no one wanders too far without the obligatory bottle of water or steaming hot cup of Joe.) The installation is a high profile multi-use auditorium at Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls, Montana.

With pen, paper and protractor in hand Frank plodded ahead undaunted by those (actually, it was only me...) who questioned whether it could be done! In keeping with the automatic folding design of Erasmus, Frank envisioned a retractable version that wouldn't toss your beverage on the floor when exiting the seat. Draw, build, test...draw, build, test...you get the idea!

Voila! Success! Behold, the fruits of Frank's labor. The result is a blend of sound engineering and design, along with sensible function and simplicity.

Some of our larger customers haven't bought a trash bag or yard bag in years! We found that if we covered our chairs in super heavy duty clear plastic bags, they would arrive with nary a blemish, never chafing against the cartons. These bags of course served an excellent second purpose around the house. Well we discovered that not only our customers could enjoy these bags but also their great grandchildren. With an eye to depriving future generations, we now have a bag made substantially of corn. It degrades in sunlight and under continued mechanical stress. It should disappear in about two to three years. This was a bit of a technological breakthrough as we did have to work with our packaging guy to keep lightening the green tint. (Our shipping department couldn't see the fabric through the bag). We apologize to our customers that they will now have to buy trash bags and, no, it is not true that we are taking kick-backs from Glad.

A change in marketing strategy, confirmed by end user input has prompted a slightly different direction for the operative series chair previewed at NeoCon 2007. We've now included these chairs into the Posh collection. This group now offers a complete range of product including executive, operative, conference, guest and multiple seating. We're offering the same SY advanced ergonomic control as the Posh Ergo Executive chair, with the additional availability of the SB basic ergonomic control at a slightly lower price point. Posh Operative product and support literature will be available in early 2009.

This lean mean kneeling machine is a custom built chair. We at Sitmatic pride ourselves in our ability to meet our customer’s specific needs. This latest creation was a result of a customer’s request to relieve pain from a hip condition. The seat, chest support and knee supports are all fully adjustable.

We maintain an ergonomic attitude in designing custom chairs just as we do our standard lines. In fact, we welcome the challenge. The difficult is routine at Sitmatic- the impossible has a little bit longer lead-time. Nontheless, we're willing to support you in any position you might find yourself in.

Posh has gone to court with shocking frequency over the last several months.

It doesn't indicate a slide into delinquency but rather cunning legal moves. The Posh fits nicely in seating the jury, bailiff, council and even witnesses!

Throw in a High Back Posh for the Judge, some Tuxedo chairs in the audience and a Alpha chair with the new +1A armrests for the court reporter and the case is closed!
